"Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" premiered just in time to satisfy horror-moviegoers during this Halloween season. The prequel to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre"-titled, predictably enough-"Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" attempts to explain how this horrific true tale all began. The movie also begins predictably with two brothers and their girlfriends traveling to a military base where the boys will be shipped to Vietnam. The foursome gets into a car wreck, and soon discovers that they are in the middle of nowhere. Shortly after the wreck, the teens are rescued by the local sheriff, who drops the teens off at an even more-isolated house far from civilization. This is where the horror begins, as here the four meet the twisted family who is housing a killer armed with power-tools: known, in the later movie, as Leather Face. If you enjoy watching people get their limbs cut off, faces removed, and their heads chopped off, this is the movie for you. The story line is very similar to that of the earlier "Texas" movie; however, there is a higher level of violence than before. This movie did have a handful of good cover-your-eyes, clench-your-armrest scary moments; however, the thought of a horror movie prequel-at least for this particular franchise-is not appealing. One "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" would have been enough, in my opinion. A new plot, based on a different real life horror story-with more gore and blood-would have been more successful.
