Are you tired? Bored with school? Can't find anything to do with the rest of your day? Give intramural sports a try. Intramurals are a great way to meet new friends and engage in (somewhat) friendly competition, not to mention stay in shape. Intramural flag football season is underway, come out and enjoy the competition! Although the leagues are full already with 18 teams in three different divisions, teams can add players to their roster up until Oct. 26.
Teams usually have at least ten people on their roster, and consist of a maximum of seven players per side on the field at one time. The games take place on a shorter field than normal football; it is 80 yards in length, counting each ten-yard end zone. The field is segmented into three 20 yard blocks, and each team has four downs to reach the next block. Games take place on the intramural fields, just on the other side of the baseball field.
Games begin on Oct. 10, and take place Wednesdays at four and five o'clock, and Sundays at three and four o'clock. The last games of the season will be played on Halloween Wednesday. Any member of the faculty or staff, as well as any student, who has not earned a college or university letter in the sport or a related sport, is eligible to play. There is, however, a fee of six dollars.
If you are interested in playing flag football, or for general information about this and other intramural sports, you can contact the campus recreation office at 8-8513.
