Ever hear or see something that mentions the Service Learning and Career Development Center, and wonder what it is? Located on the first floor of the Werner Center, directly in front of the stairs leading to the second floor, the Service Learning and Career Development Center, run by Jennifer Hansen, provides services that are available for anyone that is a student at Western. The Career center is very beneficial to have right here on campus, and there are some great opportunities, so come take advantage of what they have to offer!
Services of the Service Learning and Career Development Center:
~Career Explorations Opportunities: Find internships, go on a job shadow or volunteer in a field of interest.
~Campus Programs/ Events: Get graduate school information, attend workshops on topics such as resume writing and interview skills, visit a recruitment fairs or learn job search techniques.
~ Job listings Services: Look for work study or non-work study jobs, both on campus or off campus. Access more job listings on the Service Learning and Career development Center home page: www.wou.edu/student/career/.
~Career Coaching: Make an appointment to talk with a staff member about future job plans and get any questions about the professional work world answered.
There is so much that is offered at the Career center, and they have it nicely printed on a handout right by the door on the front desk for passersby to grab and look over. They are really here to help students with anything they may be concerned or curious about. All the staff at the Career center are also trained to help with résumé critiques. Also, if students are ever worried about future interviews and need to practice with a professional, they have advocates that can help (who will give all the feedback anyone would ever want to know)
Follow the advice of Jennifer Hansen who mans the front desk: “Sooner the better on coming in, it will make you a stronger candidate when you graduate,” and get the practice needed in interviewing, résumé writing and searching for jobs; it may be your future career on the line if you don’t!
