War of the Worlds- Steven Spielberg’s latest masterpiece starring leading man Tom Cruise and child star Dakota Fanning appears to be over dramatized, but there is still potential for a good movie. War of the Worlds will definitely be a blockbuster hit due to all of the famous faces that appear in it, but don’t expect too much; it could just be another stupid alien flick. Release Date: June 29, 2005
Mr. & Mrs. Smith- Can the audience please shout LAME? The trailer is littered with clichés and idiotic lines that would make anyone want to gag. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s new film may have stirred up some controversy, but it certainly seems it wasn’t worth all the trouble. An action movie where a married couple is hired to kill one another? Please. Besides, Jolie’s lips are starting to suspiciously look like a pair of killer whales. Scary. Release Date: June 10, 2005
Elizabethtown- Expect a lot of hype about this movie. Teeney-boppers everywhere will be screaming with glee when they discover that Orlando Bloom finally decided to get in that time machine and make it to the 21st century. Just kidding. But no, seriously, Elizabethtown actually appears to be quite a decent movie. Minus Jessica Biel, lots of talented stars appear (Susan Sarandon, Kirsten Dunst, Judy Greer) in this romantic comedy about a guy (Bloom) who gets fired for causing the shoe company he works for to loose millions. Seems like it will be worth watching in theaters. Release Date: July 29,2005
The Island- What happens when you take two incredible actors (Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson) and put them in the roles of two clones that are running for their lives so that their body parts won’t be taken and used on their human counterparts? One hell of a storyline! The subject of cloning has been begging to be made into a movie for years, and it has finally been done. Expect good things from this film. Release Date: July 22, 2005
The Brothers Grimm- Everyone knows and loves the famous Grimm fairy tales read from childhood. Now, one can experience the collection of these fables through the eyes of the Grimm brothers themselves (played by Heath Ledger and Matt Damon). This movie appears to be extremely interesting and will most likely please audiences everywhere. Who can deny a good fantasy film? Release Date: August 26, 2005
Fantastic Four- The longest running comic book series is finally made into a film, and it actually looks like it will be halfway decent, if not great. Starring Jessica Alba, Ioan Guffudd, Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans, Fantastic Four has some knock-out effects and get this, it actually looks like the jokes will be funny this time (something quite unusual for a comic book-adapted movie)! Hey, it can’t get much worse than The Hulk or Hellboy; this one has to be good. Release Date: July 8, 2005
Batman Begins- This dark adaptation of the Batman comic, which explains how Batman came to be, is sure to be a step up from the pitfalls that have been the previous Batman movies. Christian Bale stars as Batman, and it appears that this one will actually be worth watching just by watching the short trailer. Release Date: June 15, 2005
Wedding Crashers- Starring funny men Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Christopher Walken and Will Ferrell, Wedding Crashers follows the journey of two divorced men who like to crash weddings on the weekends so they can get laid for the night. Ho, hum. Sounds boring. Pass! Release Date: July 15, 2005
Bewitched- It’s the movie that young and old alike have been waiting for! The ‘60s television hit finally makes it to the big screen starring Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman. However, don’t be fooled. The popular actors are not actually playing Darrin and Samatha from the TV series; it is more of a spin-off from the show itself. Could be interesting, or it could turn out to be a disaster. It most likely won’t disappoint. Release Date: June 24, 2005
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory- Save the best for last. It is no doubt that Johnny Depp has made an impeccable decision in deciding to play Willy Wonka in Tim Burton’s new adaptation from the childhood classic written by Roald Dahl. The film promises to be more true to the book, unlike the 1971 film with Gene Wilder. It’s crazy. It’s dark. It’s just like it was meant to be. Plus, there is no going wrong when it comes to any of Depp’s films, so be prepared for a real winner. See this one in theaters. Release Date: July 15, 2005
