Summer 2005 will prove to be an exceptional season for music. A variety of tested artists and the up-and-coming are making a pilgrimage to the Rose City and surrounding venues throughout the northwest. Concerts are a great summer activity and are generally inexpensive, too.
Rain: The Beatles Experience; 17 June; Les Schwab Amphitheater, Bend, Ore.; Tickets $25-$35
Rain is a Beatles Tribute band, which actually manages to pull off the spoof quite well. Their repertoire includes nearly every original Beatles' tune.
Amos Lee; 18 June; Roseland Theatre, Portland, Ore.; Tickets $15
The young and rising star is fresh off a short stead tour with Bob Dylan. Lee combines soul, folk, piano, guitar and brilliant song writing. This is a steal of a show with the low cost of the tickets. Special Guest Missy Higgins and Mutlu. Over 21 only.
Kenny Chesney; 24 June; Rose Garden, Portland, Ore.; Tickets $49.50-$59
Country music's pretty boy is out and about with his new album released in January. Unfortunately, there will be no appearance from Jimmy Buffet.
Alanis Morissette; 8 July; Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, Portland, Ore.; Tickets $39-$65
Canada's angriest recording artist is on the small venue tour. Dust off your copy of Jagged Little Pill. (You know you've got it; everybody bought it in middle school.)
Jack Johnson; 16 August; Les Schwab Amphitheater, Bend, Ore.; Tickets $33
The singer/surfer/song writer/director makes his annual trip to Bend with special guests Matt Costa and ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra).
James Taylor; 26 August; Clark County Amphitheater, Ridgefield, Wash., Tickets $24-$60
One of the cornerstone artists for contemporary folk and the singer/songwriter genre as a whole will visit Ridgefield. This is Taylor's second visit in three years to the Northwest.
Neil Diamond; 17 September; Rose Garden, Portland, Ore.; Tickets $42 -$75
"They're coming to-Portland!" The Diamond will be in town, so be like Cracklin' Rosie and get on board. The boy from Brooklyn is one of America's favorite song writers and is still on top of his game after 25 years in the business.
Green Day; 28 September; Memorial Coliseum, Portland, Ore.; Tickets $45
That group of fine young men who used to call themselves "punk" are on tour currently, riding the success of their newest album American Idiot and healing the broken hearts of angry Democrats everywhere. Special guest Jimmy Eat World.
Fall/Winter Highlights
The Rolling Stones; 30 October; Key Arena, Seattle, Wash.; Tickets $60-$350
Still alive and on tour, this is The Stones' only Northwest visit on this tour. The tickets go on sale May 20.
U2; 19 December; Rose Garden, Portland, Ore., Tickets $49-$160
Portland is the last US stop for U2 before their tour goes internationally on their How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb album tour.
