The 2004 edition of the Western football team was young, young, young, and the squad felt the results, but the Wolves hope to ride this past season’s youth movement into a successful 2005 campaign.  The Wolves’ final mark was 1-9, including a 1-5 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Despite few tallies in the win column, the Wolves experienced some success, especially at the individual level.  Kevin Boss (tight end), Ryan Belcher (offensive line), Kevin Holcomb (linebacker) and Bret Hughes (defensive back) were named first-team all-GNAC, while Denny Bies (quarterback), Luke Carter (wide receiver), Tyler Smith (wide receiver), Tyler Knudsen (kick return), Alan Mikolas (offensive line), Paul Wright (offensive line), Dane Wagner (defensive line), Chad Boyd (defensive back) and Javon Allen were all second-team selections.  All-conference academic selections included John Apgar, Bies, Jason Buckmier, Ryan Thorson and Wagner.

Western will begin the 2005 season under new leadership, as former defensive coordinator Arne Ferguson has taken over the helm as interim head coach after the resignation of former Wolves Head Coach Duke Iverson, who boasted a 126-85 overall record, and 34-33 in seven seasons at Western.  The Wolves’ 2005 season and home opener is scheduled for Sept. 3 against Willamette at 7 p.m.
