Year in Review: Soccer
Youth and inexperience seemed to be common themes among Western athletics this year, and the women’s soccer team was no exception. The Wolves brought just one senior to the pitch this year in defender Stephanie Pogue, while the squad featured nine freshman and five sophomores.
The squad still managed a 6-13-1 overall record, with a GNAC mark of 3-9, which was good for fifth place in the conference. Sophomore forward/midfielder Amy Weberg lead the team with five goals and two assists on the season.
Individual spoils went to Pogue, who capped her senior season with first-team All-GNAC honors. Erica Hibbard, a freshman defender, was a second-team conference selection, while sophomore defender Amy McMenamin earned Honorable Mention Status. The Wolves also placed two athletes on the GNAC All-Academic Team in sophomore defender/midfielder Lisa Munyon and sophomore midfielder/forward Kim Weaver.
The Wolves’ season opener for the 2005 season will be Aug. 25 at Cal State Monterey Bay, and their home opener will be Sept. 10 against Linfield at 1 p.m.
