Blood, sweat and tears: Replace the tears with a smile and that is just about as true to men's rugby as you can get at Western.
Over the past couple of years, this small club team has grown and accomplished more than one would think possible at a smaller university like Western.
Starting in 2001, the squad has grown in number and skill. In spring 2005, these ruggers were able to sweep the Lewiston, Idaho, tournament and bring the championship to Western.
And with their previous captain, Josh Roll, off the field and coaching this year, the rookies can only look forward to learning from him and bringing home more of those championships.
"Josh was a major part of the team," junior team member Ryan Still commented. "It is good to know that he is still here."
With a round-robin tournament already under their belt, a win against Reed in Portland and practices at least three days a week, new captain Justin Gavette hopes to make this another good year for the men of Western's squad.
