SAFE HALLS HALLOWEEN

On Halloween night, the Residence Hall Association (RHA) will be holding the annual Safe Halls Halloween program for all the children in the community of Monmouth.

If you have children and would like a safe place for them to trick-or-treat, the fun runs Monday night from 6-9 p.m. If you live on-campus and wish to help pass out candy, contact your hall government.

FRENCH LANGUAGE FILM SERIES

On Wednesday, Oct. 26, "A Very Long Engagement" will be presented in ITC 211 at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, and it is the first in a five-part French film series.

ALTERNATIVE BREAK OPTIONS

Alternative Break applications are available in the Service Learning and Career Development Center.

Monmouth, OR - Make the most of your breaks from school by helping people in need, go on an Alternative Break trip. This winter a group of students has the opportunity to aid disaster relief in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In the spring there will be three groups venturing out to help people one group in Gardena, California another in San Francisco, California, as well as a group in Las Vegas, Nevada.

There is an application interview process to participate in the trip but there are from forty to fifty places available for students, staff and faculty. If you are interested please stop by the Service Learning and Career Development office and pick up an application. There will be fundraising for all four trips, in the past students paid for only $25 of the total trip cost. The applications are due on Nov. 1.

LEARN ABOUT THE INS AND OUTS OF GRAD SCHOOL

The Western Oregon University Service Learning and Career Development office has invited acclaimed speaker Donald Asher to our campus on November 2.

Monmouth, OR- Donald Asher is the author of nine books including "How to Get Any Job with Amy Major" and "Graduate Admissions Essays". He is a contributing writer for the San Francisco Chronicle and The National Business Employment Weekly plus many other publications.

Donald Asher is also known nationally for his presentations on higher education. He has spoken to tens of thousands of students about the opportunities available after you get your Bachelors degree. He has spoken and given workshops at such prestigious schools as Stanford and Purdue. His presentation at the Western campus will focus on the "ins" and "outs" of getting into graduate school.

Gradsource.com states that "Americans with a Master's degree earn on average 35 to 50 percent more money than those with just a Bachelor's degree." If you have thought about grad school in the past but never really looked into the details, Donald Asher's presentation is a great way to get started. Come to The Den on Nov. 2 from 1-2:30 p.m. to educate yourself on the "ins" and "outs" of grad school.
