Professor Gary Welander, who was accused of sexual harassment last year, has given up his tenured position at Western, according to The Associated Press.

Welander, who is currently working full time in Western's athletic department tracking athletes' academic eligibility, will retire at the end of the 2006-2007 school year. For the three years following his retirement, he will be allowed to work half time in a nonteaching position; The Associated Press reports that he will continue to work in the athletics department at half pay during that time.

Welander declined to comment on his impending retirement.
