The Academic Advising and Learning Center is experiencing abrupt staff shortages.
The advising center recently lost its two paid advisers, Dawn Wildfang and Paul Baxter. Wildfang went to pursue her passion of teaching in a bilingual elementary school, and Baxter is doing archaeological work for the University of Oregon.
The AALC is divided into two different areas: academic advising and the Learning Center. The advisers in academic advising are there to help the student body to reach their goals in education and their careers. Their goal is to create meaning for the students and give them a passion for what they do.
The Learning Center, on the other hand, works with students on study skills and to help tutor in almost any course. Any student can use these facilities by appointment or by drop-in.
Director of the Academic Advising and Learning Center Karen Sullivan-Vance is now in the process of hiring new mentors. There will be an open panel for students and faculty to attend during dead week this term. Until then, Sullivan-Vance will be aiding in the advisement of students along with the student mentors that volunteer at the advising center.
