When Curt Neill, a Western senior business major, sits down in his office to plan the impending script for his bi-weekly television show, he likes to just let the ideas flow, he said.

The planning process for We're Not Canadian-Neill's television program that floods the waves of the Monmouth/Independence public access channel every other Sunday-is "lackadaisical," he said. "We just try to think of any ideas."

"We" includes Neill and his Not Canadian comrade, his "partner in crime" as he calls him, Western Senior Social Sciences major Sam Platt.

Neill chose Platt to star opposite in his show because of his unique and extreme sense of humor, he said. "I've known Sam since I was a freshman," Neill said, "and he's always been insane."

Platt, who is known by most as a funny man on campus, is excited to be a part of Neill's show. "I'm happy to be doing it," he said, "I'm having a lot of fun."

Nathaniel Miller, Western's former Television Station Manager, passed the torch on to Neill, who has been involved in video production for the past three years.

As manger, Neill is responsible for the filming and editing processes of various campus activities. Part of the deal-he gets his own time slot on the local public access, WINPEG Channel 17.

Neill's show features myriad skits starring himself and Platt-all aimed at humoring their audience.

The goal of the show, Neill said, "is to do something fun that people at Western can watch and relate to."

Students, thus far, have expressed mixed reactions.

"I've heard a lot of good and bad," Platt said. Neill said that some emails have ridiculed the pair's humor, citing it as "stupid and boring," while others are responding with pleas to get an extra spot on the show.

Greg Lewis, a Western senior psychology major, said the show seems "interesting" after seeing bits and pieces of it. The title though, Lewis said is something he's confused about.

"I don't how I made it up," Neill said about the We're Not Canadian title. "Canadians are funny though," he said. "They like hockey."

Lewis also commented, "I can see how people get offended" from the show.

Offensive feedback, Neill said, hasn't come his way yet, but he does realize that some of the humor on his show could be considered as such. "It is immature and dirty," he said, "because we are immature and dirty."

Sarah McCutchen, a Western senior education major, said she thinks the show is funny "just because I know the guys."

Nevertheless, Neill has high hopes for what future episodes will entail, he said, aiming at "something funny and enjoyable."

New episodes of We're Not Canadian air every-other Sunday, and repeat episodes play every night of the week at midnight on WINPEG Channel 17 in the Monmouth/Independence area.
