Walking into the lobby of Hamersly Library, people may feel they've stepped back in time. The historic remnants of Western's past litter the large foyer as part of the campus' sesquicentennial celebration.

For 150 years, Western has existed as a university in the town of Monmouth, Ore., and the first-floor display, entitled "Campus Life," allows current students to view the school's heritage.

Works are on display on all three floors of the library in honor of Western's 150th birthday.

On the second floor, the work of Michael Henninger abounds-a display of artist books from the past and the present.

The third floor exhibit-"Textures of Campus"-includes stone rubbings of various campus mementos, including a seal and a stone inscription from the police academy.

The three-floor display is part of a yearlong series that will be exhibited in the library, said Camila Gabaldon, collection development and archives librarian.

Winter term will bring an exhibit solely focused on Western's history, Gabaldon said, as spring term's display will feature the women of Western.

"There are really exciting exhibits ahead and [they] are definitely worth visiting," she said.
