Cutting down on their mistakes began with senior quarterback Mark Thorson. During the game against Central Washington, Thorson threw two of Western's five interceptions. By the time the Wolves took on the Raiders from Southern Oregon, Thorson had recovered for 253 yards passing, with no interceptions. His efforts and leadership in the game and in practice have given the Wolves need a boost at the end of their season. If Thorson can continue his mistake-free play, the Wolves have a chance to win the last three games of their season.
Thorson is in his fourth year playing at Western. In 2004, he played on the practice squad after red-shirting the previous year. Since becoming the Wolves' starting quarterback in 2005, Thorson has written himself into Western's record books. In 2006, he earned an honorable mention on the Division II, All-Independent team by throwing for 2,342 yards, 20 touchdowns and 179 completions. Going into this year, Thorson was two positions below Western's all-time record with 373 completed passes and 36 touchdown passes, fifth in passing yards at 4,356 and second in completion percentage with 56.5 percent.
