The first half was one of initiation for both teams. The first offensive series pointed to a route by the off-campus team, but the on-campus defense tightened up and didn't allow any more points in the first half. Despite a 25-year legacy of loss shadowing them, the on-campus team felt no pressure according to Head Coach Levi Hogan. "We have nothing to lose and everything to gain." With this statement his team went onto the field to have a good time. Despite the one touchdown deficit, Nichole Borrayo, the on-campus quarterback, said the team was having fun and enjoying the game. Off-campus quarterback Stacey Reamer said the intensity of the game was the same as in previous years. Unlike the unconcerned on-campus, Reamer and the off-campus team were feeling the pressure of living up to the 25 year record of winning. This stress was echoed in the numerous penalties they committed during the course of the game.
Going into their locker rooms at the half, head coaches Dan Bowman, for off-campus team, and Hogan stated that there were adjustments that each team needed to make. Bowman felt that if his team could cut down on penalties they could run away with the game. The on-campus team just needed to find a way to get a first down, according to Hogan. Both defenses were limiting the effectiveness of their adversaries.
In the second half, both teams continued their stellar play. The off-campus team continued to shutdown the on-campus offense. Reamer was able to find the end zone one more time resulting in the final score: 14-0. Both coaches were happy with the effort of their respective teams. Next year the on -campus girls will try to break a 26 year losing streak. Impossible? With more preparation and participation, maybe next year will see the end of the on-campus girls' woes. •
