Western Oregon Softball team, this year's off season will be spent preparing for
a run at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference(GNAC) title. Last year the
ladies posted a 26-25 overall record, their 14-6 conference record was good enough for second place.
A big boost to the Wolves' confidence going into their off season was their stellar performance at their annual Fall Ball tournament. In October, the ladies swept the tournament at Delta Park. That win raises the expectations for the team to a 4-2 win over Oregon State.
With a win over a Division I school under their belt, the team will have to work hard in order to satisfy their own aspirations. In order to improve the team is putting in hours in the weight room and on the practice field to strengthen themselves as a team. This work is a whole team effort, which reflects well on the program built by Head Coach Pam Knox; that image helps Knox recruit new, better athletes and raise the level of the program.
The success of the fall tournament is behind the team now and they are looking forward to the regular season. Knox's goal is to keep the team from becoming complacent coming away from the good showing in the fall. The team knows that only hard work in the off season will lead to success in the spring. With success comes recognition and the Wolves hope to post another good season to bring a share of Western's athletic spotlight to their field.•
