As you walk through the Werner University Center, take time to observe the new art work displayed in the Art Gallery Alcove. From Oct. 31, until Nov. 13, pieces will be displayed for the Dia de los Muertos exhibit (Day of the Dead).

Artwork in the gallery ranges from drawings, paintings, a 3D piece and sculpture. All of the pieces were inspired by loved ones who have passed away. The curators of the exhibit are Mark Youngsma and William Madden. When asked why this display of art was thought up, Youngsma said, "I had been discussing doing a death show with Joe Smith (one of the artist's whose work is on display). It evolved into a group of artists all making this work." Youngsma put together a 3D piece, including some of his mother's artwork.
To see fellow Western students' art work, and to find out what inspired their piece, be sure to check out the Werner University Center Gallery Alcove before Nov. 13. •
