Have you ever watched someone else have sex? I don't mean porn, I mean in real life. Have you personally watched another couple embrace in the ultimate act? The first time I saw two people having sex was through a window. Now before you get mad and start calling me names, let me explain that they were the ones in front of the window, with the lights on, and the blinds open, in the res halls here on campus. If that doesn't say 'watch us', I don't know what does. Anyway, I didn't stick around too long, not for lack of interest, but it was cold outside, and it was a repetitive show.
That did, however, get me to thinking. What would it be like to actually be in the same room with a couple that knows you are there to watch them? I decided to find out. Mind you, this is not an easy task. It's not something you can just walk up to people and ask, but eventually, with a few awkward conversations, I was able to set up a date.
The couple that I was going to watch, let's call them Adam and Eve, were also excited. They are the kind of couple who is interested in trying new things, and are very open with each other. A few ground rules were put down, such as I was there only to watch, not participate (that's another column), and I had to get out of their way if things got a little crazy. With that taken care of, things got underway. I'm not going to lie, this was the part that I was dreading the most: foreplay. It can be awkward enough as it is, and this could have been the deal breaker for my little experiment, if they weren't up to it. My fears were for naught, however, as Adam and Eve knew how to get each other 'warmed up'.
It is worth mentioning that real life sex is nothing like watching pornography. When Adam accidentally slipped out right as Eve was about to climax, the moment was lost, and although there was a flicker of annoyance in both of them at the lost opportunity, there was also the realization that their little misfortune had indeed extended their session, if only for a short time longer. People aren't as graceful in real life either. Changing positions isn't always quite as smooth as the internet would lead you to believe, and sometimes things happen which can only warrant laughing.
When the time had come and Adam and Eve were finished, I thanked them for the opportunity, and let myself out. Armed with a different perspective, and even a few new moves, I now consider myself a little more open and enlightened. I encourage you to explore new avenues in your sex lives, and don't be afraid to try new things, or even ask other people to help you out.
