This impressive showing by the defense was led by senior defensive back Zach Christopherson. Christopherson is a two year starter for the Wolves who has helped lead the team to an 8-2 record, its second winning season in a row and a possibility of playing in the post season.
Christopherson began his football career at Western as a redshirt freshman in 2003; in 2004 and 2005 he played a backup defensive back role. In 2005 he was named to the GNAC All-Academic squad. In 2006 Christopherson solidified his place in the starting line up and earned an All-Independent honorable mention selection and was named to the GNAC Academic At-Large Team. The standout defensive back has made an even bigger contribution in his senior season.
In his 2007 senior campaign Christopherson would accumulate 49 total tackles, three interceptions, three pass break ups and one fumble recovery while leading the defense. Against Humboldt, Christopherson led the Wolves as they allowed -5 total yards to the outmatched Lumberjacks offense.
Christopherson finished his career with 159 tackles and a 2007 mention to the all-district first team for football. With the 2007 season over his production and leadership will be hard for the Wolves to replace next year.•
