This year has started off as a great one for Western
Oregon Athletics. The football team has been turned into a force to be reckoned with by coach Arne Ferguson. The volleyball team went from 5-11 in the conference last year to 13-5 and a second place finish this year. Even more importantly, several of Western's athletes have been honored with post season awards.

Seniors Zack Christopherson and Brett Rhodes, from the football team were selected to the all-district first team for football. Christopherson is a three year starter at safety for the Wolves; his play and 3.37 GPA as a Chemistry major has earned him a placement on the all-district team. Rhodes is a four year starter on the offensive line who has a 3.57 GPA as a Physical Education major. These honors have placed the two Wolves standouts on the National Academic All-American ballots.

Junior Stacey Bennett and sophmore Lisa Martini have been named to ESPN the Magazine All-district Division Academic second team. Bennett is a outside hitter and a middle blocker for the Wolves who has a 3.89 GPA in Psychology. Martini is a middle blocker and a right hitter who has a 3.94 GPA in Exercise Science.

In addition to these impressive numbers, five Western Oregon Cross Country athletes were named to the All-GNAC Academic team.
