Team club members and students attend the Nov. 7 rally.

On a chilly Wednesday Nov. 7 students gathered on the Werner University Center plaza at noon. The students were not there for one of the many barbeques or concerts offered by the Student Activities board, instead the students were gathered to hear what the Club Team Coalition had to say.

The Club Team Coalition (CTC) is a group of students that belong to the Western Oregon's ASWOU and the Women's Rugby, Men's Rugby and Lacrosse teams. The teams and ASWOU had staged the rally to help make the student body aware of their goals. The CTC is seeking an agreement from the Western administration regarding the new club and athletics fields located behind the current intramural fields.

The goals of the CTC are: 1) To attain a written agreement that the teams of the CTC will have priority on the new fields, not a verbal one. 2) To recognize that the CTC includes ASWOU. And 3) Safeguard against the university terminating the agreement.

To raise awareness in the student body the CTC staged the Nov. 7 rally their speakers were Tiffani McCoy and Tim Hastey of ASWOU, Karla Navarrez and Amanda Charlton of the women's rugby team, Adam Swick and Thomas Silberger of the men's rugby team and Josh Butterwegge of the men's lacrosse team.

The message of the athletes was that the current fields don't meet the growing needs of the teams. The new fields would allow these nationally ranked teams to be more competitive in their sports. According to Butterwegge the CTC is "...grateful for the work so far by the administration." But the written agreement would allow the CTC and the administration to find a common ground in this debate. "

Of the students that attended the rally, many were there to support their friends who are athletes on the teams and the teams that are seeking to better their student built programs with the new fields. They will be holding a follow up rally on Nov. 28 in front of the WUC from 11:45 p.m. to 12 :45 p.m.•
