On Nov. 16 Main Street Coffee hosted a benefit concert to gather donations for the victims of genocide in Darfur as well as those continuing to struggle due to Hurricane Katrina. Performances were made by Rebecca Chadd, Rob Leathers, Mitch Porterfield, Joshua Du Chene and Steven Franssen, who was also the events organizer.

Rob Leathers started the evening with a slow, delicate sound and then later went to a more upbeat rhythm. He had a strong stage presence, and it was evident that he loved to perform. Franssen played the harmonica with Leathers which added to the sound of the music, and pleased the crowd.

The second performer for the night was Josh Du Chene. His music is so filled with passion, it seemed unreal. His voice and intensity mesmerized the crowd and the performance was very upbeat.

Rebecca Chadd's performance was also exceptional, and could be even described as delicate. Her singing was peaceful, yet lively and also intense at the same time, drawing the crowd into a silent, almost trance-like state.

Franssen played the final set, which featured Mitch Porterfield and Josh Du Chene into the performance. Despite having some problems before the show of losing his voice earlier in the week, Franssen seemed to recover as he performed. I loved the sound combinaion of their chosen rhythm, and vocal together. With the gentle strength his sound produced; it was obvious he enjoyed performing for the crowd.

The event was a success, raising money, which will go to benefit both causes. The music was well recieved, especially the new material showcase by the performers. When asked if he enjoyed the show, Franssen replied "Of course! Josh almost injured his neck, and I'm pretty sure Mitch sprained his wrist during Tornado." He added that the show was almost an hour long, and that he plans for future shows to be shorter.

A big thank you goes out to every one who attended the show and donated to help out the worthy causes.•
