Western Oregon University is not known as a player factory for the National Football League. Few players from Western have gone on to the NFL. When Jeremy Shockey broke his leg in week 15 the New York Giants began to look for a receiving tight end to replace him. In the week 17 match-up against the deadly New England Patriots they turned to the Boss.

When you mention the Boss in New Jersey (where the Giants play) the community usually thinks of local rock legend Bruce Springsteen. But during the 2007 NFL season a new Boss moved to New Jersey. With a four catch, 50 yard and one touchdown performance, Western football and basketball standout Kevin Boss may have established himself as Eli Manning's new safety valve.

With his performance while replaceing Pro Bowl Tight End Jeremy Shockey, Boss has brought national attention to himself and Western. As his friends, former teammates and classmates watch him this weekend they will witness a small university giant leaving his mark on professional football. Boss' appearance on the scene in New York has helped the Western football program's recruiting. With Boss making the most of this opportunity, he receives a lot of support from Giants fans in the small town of Monmouth, Oregon.•
