Many events happened in 2007 that brought delight and triumph to Western students and staff alike. And now we look to 2008 to hold even more exciting activities and successes than ever before. Let's look back at some of the highlights from the past year as we look forward to all that the new year has to offer.

We said goodbye to our fellow Wolves as they graduated in June, but had newcomers arrive on our campus and become a part of our community. New Student Week provided the opportunity for students to become more familiar with the campus, classes and college life in general. Speakers talked about the various activities to get involved with, how to study for tests and even how to get along with your roommate.

The first term back for the school year also supplied a multitude of sport victories. Western's football team finished out the season with a 9-2 record after a 26-12 win at the Dixie Rotary Bowl in December. Men's cross-country placed fourth in the Western region and women's placed seventh. This was the first winning volleyball season since 1999, with the team finishing with a 13-5 record. The support and spirit behind these athletics was tremendous and will hopefully be carried into 2008.

The arts also started off the school year on a high note. The music department showcased several performances, and the Chamber Choir performed in China over the winter break. Art exhibits were showcased at both the Werner Center and Campbell Hall, featuring a variety of subjects, including one that dealt with artists remembering those who impacted their lives. This coming year the artwork will be placed at other locations on campus for students to admire.

Western's theater saw it's share of excitement as well. "Private Eyes" and "Dancing at Lughnasa" were the two plays performed by students, both of which were executed extremely well and left audiences impressed. This next year, students can expect even more to come, including the much-anticipated musical due to open in the next few months.

Well Western, we're done with the first term of the year. Our fellow students have shown great skill and promise, so we can all have confidence that 2008 will be just as successful as 2007. •
