Come Feb. 21 the Model United Nations (WOUMUN) club at Western Oregon University will hold its annual International Awareness Dinner (IAD) and Silent Auction. Every year the club chooses a certain country to represent at conferences and learn more about. This year that country is South Africa, which is also the theme country for this year's dinner. The club is pleased to announce that Consul-General Ms. Jeanette Ndhlovu from the South African Consulate in Los Angeles will be traveling nearly one-thousand miles to attend and speak at the dinner.
The IAD is WOUMUN's largest fundraiser of the year and strives to get the Western community interested in international issues. Fundraising from the dinner will help support the future attendance of Western students to Model United Nations conferences on the west coast and abroad.
The night will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an hour-long reception at which time guests can mingle and listen to some of Western's amazing student jazz musicians. Wine and appetizers will be served during the reception. The club's silent auction will be taking place during this time as well and guests are invited to participate. Items will include everything from gift certificates to student art and weekend getaways.
At 7:30 p.m. the dinner will start and guests will have the opportunity to hear different speeches on issues pertaining to South Africa and the problem of malaria in Africa. Tickets for the dinner are $20 and can be purchased at Sterling Savings Bank in Independence, OR.
