Western Oregon's Baseball team improved to 19-12 on the year and completed a four-game sweep of Saint Martin's with two wins each on March 22 and 24.
Saturday began with the bottom of the order providing the offense for the Wolves. Eric Renander went 3-for-3 with two doubles, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs while Cesar Lopez had three hits in four trips to the plate, driving in three runs. Taylor Mieras added a pair of hits and scored three times. Wolves starter Mike Eisenhauer went the distance to get the win, scattering 10 hits, allowing five runs and striking out nine batters. Saturday's second game saw the Wolves blanked through two innings before the Wolves' bats woke up. In the bottom of the third, Western batters hammered five hits and brought four runners across the plate to overcome the deficit and take the lead for good. Western added another run in the fifth to make the lead 5-2. The Saints nearly made a come back in the seventh inning but Western reliever Ben Shivers retired the side with two men aboard.
The next double-header was Monday when Drew Humphrey and Dylan Bruck combined for nine hits to lead the Wolves in the first game. Western Oregon scored nine runs in the first two innings of the second game as the Wolves won 9-4 and 9-1 on Monday afternoon at the WOU Baseball Field. Starting pitcher Mike Cusick cruised through the first eight innings of play, allowing only one run and three hits in the first game. The Saints finally got to him in the ninth for three runs before Jared Neyens closed out the first game. In the second game the Wolves jumped out to a commanding lead with four runs in the first and five in the second. Travis Fox and Joe Pratt had four of Western's ten hits in the game while St. Martins was limited to five. In just his second start of the year, Ryan Smith picked up the win, pitching the first four innings. Western Oregon plays again April 1 at Corban College then returns home April 12 for a 12 game home span.•
