Runners Jeff Long, Zeke VanPatten, and Lloyd Massey, along with jumper Tyler Reisnaur and thrower Anthony Marin achieved or bettered season-best times and distances in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), all ranking in the top three, during this past weekend's invitational meet at UCLA, April 10-12.

Long finished ninth in the 800 meters with a time of one minute and 54.03 seconds, the fastest time in the GNAC this year. VanPatten climbed the ladder on Western's all-time list with a seventh place finish in the 5,000 meters. His time of 14:57.63 ranks him third in the conference this year. Massey, current GNAC leader in the 400 hurdles, improved his time and placed eleventh overall.

Reisnaur placed fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 45-10, a 2008 GNAC best. Improving his discus throw to 145-6, Marin, has the second best throw in the conference thus far. Marin also finished third in the men's open hammer with a throw of 171-9.

Zeb Udell finished third in the decathlon with 5,585 points, despite a "no height" in his best event, the pole vault, and qualified for the GNAC championships. With a 22-6 jump in the long jump, the junior achieved a season-best mark and now holds the second longest jump in the conference. Adding to his previous achievements as GNAC Male Newcomer of the Year and GNAC Male Outstanding Performer of the Year, Udell was recently named the GNAC Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. During his indoor season, Udell set a school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-2 ¾ and won the long jump (23-0) at the GNAC meet setting a meet and conference record.

On the women's side, four Wolves made their way into or up the school's all-time Top 10 list. Freshman runners Ashley Berry and Annan Applebee ran 2:15.90 and 2:16.05, respectively, in the 800 meters. The duo finished tenth and eleventh and now hold places eight and nine on Western's all-time list. Sarah Barker bettered her fourth place standing in the Top 10 with a time of 1:30.54 in the 400 meter hurdles. Mandy Keifer finished second in the javelin with a throw of 129-5, the sixth best throw in the GNAC this year and placed herself seventh on Western's all-time javelin rankings.
