All the single and married ladies
Hello, my name is Jake Logan and I am a feminist. Yes it is true you can be both a male and feminist, in fact everybody should be a feminist, because unless you dropped from the sky completely formed, you are here because of a woman.
Maybe I am a feminist because I come from a family of strong women, like my great-grandmother, Anna, who refused to say obey in her wedding vows in the 1920s. Perhaps it is because I am a decent human being who can see beyond my own genitalia.
For some reason, there is great backlash against women's rights, especially when it comes to birth control. For those who were not raised by a medical assistant in an OBGYN's office, birth control is not an abortion in pill form. It will not abort a fetus. Birth control can be used for more than a contraceptive.
For some reason people forget this little known fact about birth control, it is not 100 percent effective, while 99.99 percent is high, there is still .1 percent chance of getting pregnant.
I am having the most frustrating experience with the way some men are reacting and speaking about women. Ultra-conservative men, like Rush Limbaugh, feel it is okay to call the women who call for free birth control, sluts and whores. Another man to join the hate speech against women is the sad and pathetic excuse for a man, Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson.
Mr. Peterson is the leader of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND). BOND describes Peterson as: "the most courageous, outspoken critic of the liberal left and the so-called 'black leadership' in America today. Often referred to as the 'antidote to Jesse Jackson,' Jesse Peterson is also the man behind the National Boycott of the NAACP, believing the organization to be nothing more than a tool of the 'elite, socialist' elements of the Democratic Party."
Peterson is claimed to be charismatic and courageous but after watching a few videos of him he is actually sluggish, and just as slow in speech as he is slow in mind.
"I think that one of the greatest mistakes America made was to allow women the opportunity to vote. We [should have] never turned this over to women. And these women are voting in the wrong people. [They are] voting in people who are evil, who agrees with them, [who are going to] take us down this pathway of destruction," said Peterson in a sermon posted online.
Peterson said that after saying that "Women cannot handle power... [It is] not in them to be in power... God gave man the power, power over the wife." Peterson went as far as to say "Most [men] did not make mistakes in the past, some did but not most. Men are tougher [and] more solid."
Apparently in Peterson's narrow and totally whacked point of view, women, because of their liberation and equal rights are "degraded and shameful." Apparently, women's liberation has been a great conspiracy to force the poor defenseless Christians to turn their backs on God and embrace abortion and contraception.
"The government is forcing the Christian Community, like the Catholics, to handout the morning after pill," said Peterson. My only guess to what the heck Peterson was talking about was the government said that all hospitals must provide access to birth control.
Since some hospitals like Providence, or as I call it "Sisters of Profit" buy hospitals and then force their own believes on the patients. Providence is a Catholic operated hospital, and does not necessarily give out birth control because it is against their religion.
I am sorry, I did not know that women asking for basic health care rights made them sluts and whores. Why do women get all the blame? Unless a woman is a lesbian, she is having sexual relations with a man. So where is the blame for the men? Do women have some mystical power over a man that renders him, a supposed natural born leader, into a crazed sexual victim?
The first video I watched of Peterson (his sermon on the mistake of letting women be equal to men) I wondered what his thoughts on slavery were, as an African-American man, you would think it he would think a gross atrocity in U.S. history.
Oh no! According to Peterson, he thanks God for slavery. Why, because it got them out of Africa and got them to the greatest nation on earth, he wishes blacks "back on the plantation so they would understand the ethic of working... They need a good hard education on what it is to work."
He also hankers for the days when men could physically strike a woman, and defend themselves physically from attacks from women. In others words, he is a wife-beating asshole.
This is the level of crazy we are dealing with. Now do not get me wrong, I too think that America is the greatest and I love my country. But I would and will not let my country or any country for that matter discriminate against half the population, women.
So all the single and married ladies: UNITE! Take a stand against misogyny. You are a person too, with equal rights. This is not Taliban-led Afghanistan. If your voice is not heard, and you are denied rights, act the exact opposite of what you are being called. If you are still called a slut or whore, pull a Lysistrata until rights are given!
